Lapeer Area Citizens Against Domestic Assault

LACADA provides free and confidential support to live a life free from violence.  Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault often feel alone and there is no where to turn.  LACADA strives to empower survivors in regaining control in their lives through crisis intervention, advocacy, and support services.

Serving all residents of Lapeer County who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or stalking.  In operation since 1991, LACADA provides free and confidential support services that include crisis intervention, support groups, court accompaniment, information and referrals, emergency shelter and personal advocacy.

LACADA provides all services free of charge and free of discrimination against any person on the basis of race, color, national origin, physical challenge, sexual preference, gender, creed or age in participation in its programs.

Mission Statement

To provide safe shelter, independence, empowerment and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking while seeking to end violence against individuals and their families through promoting social change, community education and public awareness in our community.

Philosophy

The LACADA Board of Directors recognizes that domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking have devastating effects not only to those individuals directly involved, but to our community as a whole. LACADA believes a comprehensive community response to domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking through education, advocacy and appropriate intervention are necessary to bring about social change that addresses the existing imbalance of power within violent relationships. LACADA is committed to treating survivors with dignity and respect while providing services and programs that embrace an empowerment philosophy that recognizes the individuality of each survivor.

LACADA is Committed To:

  1. Providing safe shelter and support services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.
  2. Helping survivors identify their options and discover their strengths, while providing information, referrals and positive empowering support in a compassionate environment that respects each individual’s right to self determination.
  3. Advocating for the rights of survivors while actively working to make positive changes in societal responses to domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking that includes advocating within the criminal justice system and holding assailants accountable for the abuse.
  4. Serving our community by providing community education, outreach and public awareness about LACADA’s services, information and education on domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking along with promoting social change that addresses the existing imbalance of power within violent relationships.
  5. Connecting with community systems that come into contact with survivors and working to ensure that survivor’s needs are met effectively and sensitively.
